We’re here to help
Have a writing assignment?
Don’t know where to start?
Need help with citations?
Need help with grammar?
We know that writing doesn’t come easy for many people. We can help you with all stages of the writing process from brainstorming to final editing and everything in between. Our tutors will be happy to help.
At the Writing Center, we are much more than a proofreading service (though we can help you learn to proofread, too). Our primary goal is to help you become more confident and skillful with words and ideas. We will help you identify your difficulties and give you some concrete tools you can use to sharpen your writing. You can expect helpful and friendly tutors who will involve you and your ideas in your tutoring session.
Call (575-538-6051) or use the form below to schedule a virtual appointment. If no one is available to answer the phone, please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If you use the form you will receive a response email from writing.center@wnmu.edu.
The Writing Center is now just an internet connection away! Students can use the form below to reach the Writing Center to do any of the following:
- Ask a question about a writing project. For example, “Do I have my thesis statement in the right place on my first page?”
- Send a draft of their essay (as an attached Word document) for advice/guidance. Students are required to send in their essay at least 72 hours before they expect to get it back.
- Note: Tutors will not correct each and every mistake in an essay. They will point out strengths and weaknesses in an essay and explain how to correct a persistent error. Students should explain at the top of their essay what they are primarily concerned with (e.g., grammar, formatting, organization) so that tutors can address these issues directly. For questions, more information, or to make a virtual appointment, please use the form below or call 575-538-6051. If no one is available to answer the phone, please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible. If you use the form you will receive a response email from writing.center@wnmu.edu.
- NOTE: The Writing Center’s email service does not replace TutorMe Electronic Tutoring. The two services are different yet complimentary.
Writing Center Hours
Updated January 21, 2025
Hello students!
Writing is a process that does not come easily to most people. The Writing Center is here to help. We offer support in many different ways – everything from going over a syllabus and understanding instructions to turning in a polished, final draft and all the steps in between.
Here’s how it works:
You can email assignments and ask for comments from any of our tutors, or have a virtual (Zoom) conversation to talk about an assignment with any of the tutors. See our hours below.
If you use the form above to contact the Writing Center, be sure to include any instructions from the professor. The turnaround time for emailed assignments is 72 hours, so be sure to submit early.
The Writing Center is located in Miller Library.
If you call and the phone is not answered, please leave a voicemail and someone will return your call ASAP.
We look forward to working with you!
